WHAT IS CONSIDERED A DENTAL EMERGENCY?
Typically, a patient needing a dental emergency will not be able to wait for treatment by booking a regular appointment. There may be instances of pain or bleeding that should be treated immediately in order to avoid causing undue harm or permanent damage. Typically, a patient will need to book an emergency dental appointment if they have:
- Lost a tooth due to trauma, such as a sports injury
- Infection with rapid swelling
- Sudden pain, heat and/or redness
- Bleeding
If your emergency occurs during office hours please call 250-763-3338 right away to secure your emergency appointment time. Occasionally, emergencies happen outside of office hours. If it is a true dental emergency, please feel free to call the number above and you will be directed to an emergency number.
If you have been involved in an accident and a tooth has been knocked out, it is essential to see a dentist immediately. Tissues, nerves and blood vessels become damaged when a tooth has exited the mouth. There is a change the tissues can grow back to support the tooth again, If the tooth is placed back in its socket within the hour. Gently, rinse your tooth off with warm water (holding the crown of the tooth, DO NOT touch the roots) and then either place in a jar of milk or some of your saliva to keep it moist, to transfer it to your dental office.
