Kelowna Dentists Explain How to Clean Invisalign Braces

Uncategorized

If you’re lucky enough to be wearing Invisalign braces, you already know how easy this system works to shape your teeth toward your perfect smile. To make your Invisalign experience even better, our Kelowna dental clinic has put together some tips to help you care for your braces.

To ensure your aligners stay clean, clear, and odour-free, follow our suggestions for cleaning your Invisalign tray and you’ll impress even your Kelowna dentist on your next visit!

How to clean Invisalign braces:

Storage
When you’re not wearing your aligners, keep them completely immersed in a glass of clean water. This helps keep discolouration at bay and gives your aligners a chance to be rinsed of your saliva. Before you put your aligners back in your mouth, take them out of the glass and give them a quick rinse under the sink.  When you’re ready to store again, be sure to use new water.

Brushing
Even though you remove your aligner to eat and drink anything but water, your aligners are exposed to the saliva that contains remnants of the food and bacteria that pass through your mouth throughout the day. So, get in the habit of brushing your aligners at the same time as you brush your teeth, and be sure to brush your teeth every time you’re about to pop your aligner in. Some Kelowna dentists suggest brushing your aligners with non-gel toothpaste, or a range of other cleaning products (see next point).

Cleaning Products
Invisalign sells a cleaning kit containing a cleaning tub and crystals, but there are some less expensive alternatives to get rid of the plaque that can build up in your mouth and in your aligners. A Kelowna orthodontist might recommend soaking your aligners in denture cleaner tablets twice a day for an hour. Some wearers find lunch and dinner good times of the day to do this. Or you can soak your aligners in a mix of baking soda (1 tablespoon) and water (half a cup).

When you keep your mouth clean, it’s easy to keep your aligners clean. Getting in the habit of storing your aligners in water, brushing them and soaking them regularly will help you keep your Invisalign braces invisible.

Once your teeth are straight and you’re wearing a beautiful smile, why not brighten them up, too? Here in Kelowna, teeth whitening is fast, easy and there are several options to suit your budget and lifestyle.
